| • What's an appropriate raise at a six month review? |
|
I work in investor relations as an account coordinator and believe I am being underpaid. As I'm sure everyone feels this way, I want to get others advice on the situation.
I just graduated college and have no prior backround in finance or investor relations. I have a communications degree and have done pretty well for my self here.
However, my starting salary is 27K and I dont think I can afford to make this little anymore (with 75K worth of school bills starting to arrive).
I'm up for review and would like to make around 35K or so, is this ridiculous to ask for?
Also - please dont answer with links of what the position usually pays. I'm well aware that I am dramatically under paid given the position, but for an ad agency in Buffalo, NY, I'm wondering if the pay increase request is unreasonable. Thanks.

| • 15 year old investing $10,000? |
|
$12,000
My aunt and I plan to do something together with my money. Since I cannot trade that much yet because of my age, I decided to let her manage my money, she is very knowledgeable about trading and investing. She's the Investor Relation Officer of a very well known oil company, I'm not telling you which one hahaha....
so here we plan to invest $12,000 of my money to a foreign country, we can't decide yet, maybe some country that we have connections, we plan to invest it on commodities especially rice, rice is very much in-demand in some countries that are not developed countries
She told me that we can buy rice and hold on to them for a month or so........ then that can yield me up to 15 pecent after a month or two= 13800 approx. after each selling month...
my question is where else can we invest... I'm thinking about stocks.. stock prices are very low these days... so we thought it's a good idea to do both commodities and stocks...
im asking for opinion
is stock trading these days good-or-bad?
thanks..
state your trading experience please
you guys won't believe it... maybe you should get some info's regarding prices of goods in different countries especially in 3rd world countries.... it's really really rising...

| • Voting Question: Washington Mutual common stocks - WAMUQ? |
|
I own wamu common stocks before it went bankrupted (yes, i know) and it is now trading in pink sheet securities. I lost $6000.00 and is not cost effective to file an individual lawsuit. I would like to know
1) If I'm eligible to file a class action. If so, based on the past history (i.e. Delta Airline) how much can a common stockholder to recover the loss.
2) How much longer will it remain trading under pink sheet?
I have emailed WAMU investor relations but haven't received any reply yet.
Thank you in advance.

| • What is my political ideology? |
|
I don't know what political party and ideology I belong to. Here is a list of what I stand up for:
-I am against abortion – I am for someone’s right to live. Pro life, basically.
-I am for the death penalty – This should apply for serious offenders.
-I am a law abiding, conscientious citizen.
-I consider myself to be a very ethical person, and am law-abiding.
-I like technological innovation for the sake of improving people’s lives and creating more jobs.
-I like transparent corporate investor relations practices, with the intervention of the SEC when it comes to unruly behaviors of upper management.
-I value individual freedom, don’t we all?
- I am not sure if I should trust the president’s decision to send American troops to Iraq. I would only empathize with it if there is a sufficient reason given by the CIA – which I haven’t followed too much. Therefore I cannot say that I am for or against the decision to send American troops to Iraq.
-Healthcare should be provided to people who cannot afford them, not to everyone.
-I hate people with certain personal flaws, and probably wouldn’t vote for a man who was divorced, cheated on their wives, etc. That’s why I didn’t vote for Kerry and probably won’t vote for McCain.
- I think that the president should do something about the economy; provide more creative solutions to improve our situation than just let it be (the idea of a free market.)
-Gays shouldn’t get married. Period.
-Something should be done about the environment. Protect our natural resources (like gasoline, etc,) the polar bears and the climate.
-Unlawful immigrants – OUT OF THIS COUNTRY!

Go to the website of Microsoft Corporation at http://www.microsoft.com/msft/reports/default.mspx. Click on About Microsoft, then Investor Relations, and then Annual Reports. Then click on the most recent Annual Report, then Financial Review, then Balance Sheet and Notes. In the Balance Sheet, find out how much unearned revenue was reported by Microsoft in each of the two years shown. In the Notes, read the section on "Revenue Recognition" and determine the source of the unearned revenue.
In the Web Field Trip, you were asked to examine Microsoft Corporation's balance sheet and related notes. How much unearned revenue did Microsoft report? What was the source of that revenue? Do you think this amount of unearned revenue would be typical for a company like Microsoft? Why?

| • WHAT WOULD I DO? what job would best fit my abilities and preferences? |
|
I will graduate from college in several months and plan a career in public relations. After several interviews, I receive two job offers.
One is with a high-technology company that makes ink-jet printers and scanners for the consumer market. The corporate communications department has about 20 professionals, and it is customary for beginners to start in employee publications or product publicity. Later, with more experience, I might be assigned to do marketing communications for a product group or work in a specialized area such as investor relations, governmental affairs, or even community relations.
The second job offer is from a local office of a large, national public relations firm. I would begin as an assistant account executive and work on several accounts, including a chain of fast-food restaurants and an insurance company. The jobs pay about the same but the corporation offers better insurance and medical plans.
Taking into consideration the pros and cons of working for public relations firms versus corporations, what job would best fit my abilities and preferences?

| • Voting Question: I'm losing a lot of money in stocks and need advice!? |
|
I invested in Rite Aid (RAD) last year at $6.42 a share with a $2000 investment but it had gone down to $2.50 by March of 2008. I've purchased additional shares and invested another $3000 hoping that the stock price will turn around and at least break-even on my investment when the stock was on its way down. But today, the stock is trading at $1 a share and my $5000 is now only about $1500. I would more than anything love to get rid of this stock but doing so now would mean a $3500 loss. I initially bought because I had hoped that its Eckard acquisition would turn into huge profits for the company but instead is putting servere debt and operating losses on Rite Aid. The company is forcasting another $.50 per share loss for next quarter but I was assured by someone at investor relations that the company is not heading for bankruptcy. What should I do? Should I sell the stock and take the huge loss or hold on for long term and see if it will go up?

| • A day in the life of a buy-side (equity) analyst?? |
|
Hi,
I currently work as a corporate financial analyst (budgets, forecasts, etc...), but this is not the career path I would like to take.
The investment side of finance always interested me more, and currently I'm thinking of taking my level 1 CFA.
Since I never worked an investment job before; can somebody explain to me what a day in the life of a buy-side (equity) analyst consits of? I guess from the moment I get there until it's time to go home? Responsibilities?
Or any other investment type job if you are not a buy-side analyst? (hedge fund, forex, fixed income analyts, investor relations, etc...)
I always liked analyzing the market so I think being a buy-side (equity) analyst is more my style, but I guess it would be nice to see what other investment jobs have to offer as well.
Thank you!!

| • Question about software/media solution for Retail Stores? |
|
Hi. For a university business course project, I need to know if retail store (or store chain) owners would be interested in some services:
- Customized operational software: Inventory management, Point-of-Sale, Sales Records, Invoices, etc. This software would have the specific features that the store owner desires, and in whatever layout they wish. Also, the look of the software is branded to match the store's corporate image.
Estimated Typical Price: $30,000 CAD or USD
- Website: Typical website with an online store. The store's staff or owner can modify its content if they need. The design would match the company's corporate image, and the store's owner (or some designated member of the staff) can be a part of the design process.
Estimated Price: $10,000 CAD or USD
- Corporate Video: One 5-minute video (or several videos adding up to 5min) which can be used as TV or online ads, for employee training, investor relations, etc.
Estimated Price: $10,000 CAD or USD
Thanks!

|
Ok, so I'm almost 100% sure that one of the people who is posting on stock discussion boards, is none other than the guy working for investor relations for the company.
He keeps telling people to BUY BUY BUY and that it's a great company.
Is this legal? Can investor relations do this???

| • Voting Question: What do you think of these stocks? |
|
I just watched this video of small cap stocks
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5903337500317012773&q=nmkt&total=26&start=0&num=10&so=1&type=search&plindex=0

Which i going mean gain also i noticed that they went from revenue of $1 Million in 2002 to over $100 million in 2007 this could be the best stock out there. What do you think i was also looking at stocks that have good divedend and seen ADVNB one of the largest credit card issuers in america. I noticed that becasue of the credit crisis at the moment this is a real good time to get in on ADVNB what do you think.

The last thing any company would want to do is piss off their shareholders.

I am trying to help my company recruit a new director for investor relations. It's a technology firm, not huge but growing. We need someone with finance as well as communications abilities. Probably midwest, but could be from anywhere. Know anyone good?

| • What is the sound of one person fighting back? |
|
From Yahoo's Investor Relations site, a snippet from Yahoo!'s code of employee conduct:
I don't see any of that happening in YA. If Yahoo's employees can't or won't follow their own code of conduct, it's time to contact the board of directors to voice their concerns about YA.
Believe me, I don't enjoy writing posts like this. But I simply don't know any other way to get better treatment by whoever's running YA.
The Investor Relations site will let you know who REALLY has to answer to the shareholders and to the public - the directors. I assume that the shareholders are not very happy with them now as it is.
Unresponsiveness to stakeholder concerns is bad business. YA's users deserve better.

| • Business License Questions? |
|
I live in New York state, and I know the rules and guidelines are different for every state when it comes to obtaining business licenses. I want to start a home based business which will be a sole proprietorship. I am selling a service, not a product. Basically my services will relate to investor relations and I will be hired by smaller macro cap companies. Do I need a business license for these services? I am 23 years of age and have been wanting to start my own business but unsure how in terms of licenses. I know I can contact my city officials, but figured I would ask on here first.
Also will I have to file taxes quarterly? I definitely have a plan for my business, but most will agree that you can never predict gross income. What if my business does not take off the way I am planning? How will it effect my taxes?
Thanks in advance and please only comment if you truly know what you are talking about.

| • Bush Family Profits, How can this be? |
|
George’s “Uncle Bucky” joined the board of military contractor Engineered Support Systems Inc. (ESSI) in 2000 and perhaps not surprisingly, the value of the company’s governmental contracts has strongly increased with Bush Jr. in office. Uncle Bucky earns monthly consulting fees as well as options to buy stock at favorable prices, and considering that ESSI’s stock tripled two weeks after 9/11 then settled into comfy territory, it’s safe to say that George’s uncle is doing quite well. In fact, Bucky cashed out on 8,438 stock options in January 2005, earning himself a cool $450,000 in the process. As of 2005, he still owned options on 45,000 more shares of the company’s stock and accrues more each year.
War is profitable for ESSI, or as an executive explained: “The increasing likelihood for a prolonged military involvement in Southwest Asia by U.S. forces well into 2006 has created a fertile environment for the type of support … products and services that we offer.”But lest anyone conclude that Bucky has opened doors for the company, ESSI’s vice-president of investor relations explained in 2005, “The fact his nephew is in the White House has absolutely nothing to do with Mr Bush being on our board or with our stock having gone up 1000 per cent in the past five years.” Absolutely nothing at all.

I have a business that summarizes publicly traded companies SEC filings. I market directly to the Investor Relations department. I know that my product is good, but reception has been cold. I know that it is due, in part, to my size and an unfamiliarity with the product. Can anybody offer some advice as to how I can close some sales.
Much appreciated,

| • Do you own any BPWW? |
|
My question really only applies to anyone that owns some shares in Big Apple Worldwide (BPWW). I doubt anyone you owns any will even see my question but, what the can't..can't hurt to ask. Anyways..I, like so many others received hundreds of thousands of shares valued at nearly nothing with only a rumored verbal (how's that for validity? haha) promise that these shares would become unrestricted and free to trade 12 months after their disbursement. That 12 month soon changed to 24 months and that was the last anyone heard as far as I know. It has now been around 27 months and still nothing. BPWW Investor Relations won't return calls or emails. This isn't something I lose sleep over, because I assumed when I received the shares that they would be nothing but fire starters.
Anyway..anyone know anything about these guys besides what their trumped up pinksheet PRs say every few days?
|
| • Has any FAQ page, anywhere, ever had your question on it? |
|
Like... how do I get off your annoying email list. I would think something like that would be asked more often than "how can I find out more about your other products?" Or "Where can I contact your investor relations department?" Half their questions never sound like something normal people would ask. At least not "Frequently".
